Thinking that these things will solve their rodent problem.
It can be super challenging for most homeowners. Here are some of the Twin Home Experts’ secrets that you need to know!
Step 1:
You MUST first figure out how they are getting into your walls. Identifying all access points is paramount.
If you don’t figure this out, most traps or baits will not work. Rats are super smart and won’t go near the traps because they have their own food source elsewhere. They are just using your wall to nest and make babies.
Here is a great example of what we do first to identify an entry point:
Step 2:
As you can see the importance and the extreme of dealing with rats inside your walls.
More than likely you will have to open your walls to get to the source. Once the wall is open and you identify the breach (whether it be a pipe hole they chewed through to get into your walls or a breach in your structure) seal these openings using steel or metallic materials.
Now we’re getting to what you came here for.

This video shows how effective luring rats out of your wall can be.
They have no way out, they get hungry, and then bam! Big catch.
We ended up pulling 4 rats out of this wall within a 3-day period.
Most rats were active at night time between the hours of 10 pm to 2 am.
PRO TIPS FOR RATS IN YOUR WALLS:
- Make sure if you are going to open your walls due to rat activity, that you build a zipper door containment to prevent dust and contamination from entering your breathing space.
- We highly recommend using a shop vacuum with HEPA filtration, this will keep you safe and you may need it to suck out a rat nest and or maybe a few rats.
- You can spray an enzyme into the wall upon completion of vacuum cleaning. This will remove any remaining pheromones and odor.
- For any openings you see from the floor inside the wall, it’s important to seal them up completely.
Doing all these 4 steps will help you be more effective in luring rats out of your wall, especially using the ice chest secure to the wall technique.
Conclusion:
It’s more important to find and seal up the entry points, then you can start to secure a foam ice chest to the wall where you hear the noise.
While we have experienced rats chewing their way through the ice chest in desperation to get out, it’s very rare.
