Inspect Your Water Source Connections and then Follow These Tips
Here, at The Twin Home Experts, we strive to help our local community with saving our most important life source we have on this earth – water.
Water consumption may be trickling unnecessary money out of your wallet on a daily basis. It turns out that you can conserve water and money in many small ways that can collectively add up to large savings. Visit our “Water Use Calculator” and you can determine how much water you and your family is using in your household. Your water conservation efforts benefit our environment for a win-win situation.
Start by inspecting each water source connection in your home and garden, then use these Twin Plumber tips for reduced water use:
- In your kitchen : Scrape dishes, instead of rinsing them before you load the dishwasher. Run the dishwasher only when it is full. Install a restricted-flow aerator on your kitchen faucet so you use less water when rinsing vegetables or washing your hands.
- In your bathroom : Did you know that toilets are the biggest source of indoor water waste in a home? Repair leaks immediately and consider installing high-efficiency toilets, which use significantly less water per flush. This can result in a savings of up to 25,000 gallons of water per year for a family of four.
Check this leaky toilet out that we had just repaired for a customer that claimed the toilet had been running like this for weeks:
When it comes to bathing, take shorter showers and install a low-flow shower head for reduced water usage each time.
- In the laundry room : Washing machines are the second-highest source of home water usage. The federal Energy Star program rates the performance of washing machines and awards these high-efficiency appliances with the star logo. Upgrade your washing machine to a more-efficient model for reduced water use each time you use it.
- General leaking : Plumbing leaks from faucets, toilets, washing machine hoses, and sprinkler systems. These all waste water, cause mold growth, and compromise your home’s structure. Have your contractor run a leak-detection diagnostic in your home and garden to find sources of water waste and have them repair all leaks.
- Outside irrigation systems : A good landscaper or gardener will adjust your sprinkler system to water your plants during the cooler morning hours, so that less water is lost to evaporation. Use moisture sensors and a rain shutoff device so you don’t overwater your lawn and/or garden.
