When you come to the unfortunate realization that you have a leak in your home, surely the first thing you did was call in a plumber. A professional is needed to find the exact location of the leak because they aren’t always the easiest to pin down.
But, once that’s done and they confirm that you do, in fact, have a leak, you have two options placed in front of you for repair: traditional, or trenchless.
Traditional repair involves digging up your yard to get to the problem area, so we’re thinking that, if possible, you want to rule that out and move on to option number two.
Slip Lining Repair Methods
The non-invasive method that The Twin Plumbers use for pipe repair is called slip lining. A solution used since the 1940s, slip lining has proved time and time again to be an effective pipe rehabilitation technique.
Simply put, slip lining is when we put a smaller carrier pipe into a larger host one in order to stop any infiltration and leaks, and restore structural integrity to your existing pipe.
When installing a slip line, we can use two different methods – continuous and segmental. The processes are very similar, and mainly just differ because of the pipe material used as the new carrier pipe.
- Continuous slip lining involves a long, continuous high density polyethylene pipe being pulled through your existing one, eventually hitting the end point and sealing up the leak.
- Segmental, on the other hand, involves using bell and spigot-type pipes, like FRP or PVC. In this case, the individual pieces of the pipe are lowered into place, pushed together, and moved along the inside of the existing pipe corridor.
At The Twin Plumbers, we will diagnose your problem first and then work with you on what we believe is the best course of action for repair.
