As you know, closets play an important role in a home & office, but it can also play an important role in mold growth if you are not aware of what you can do to prevent it. Things are stored in our closets for a very long time without a lot of movement, and most of all closets are typically dark and items are packed inside to get the maximize storage. Perfect conditions for mold to grow, mess up your air quality, and damage your possessions!
We just recently had a customer who just purchased a home and prior to the closing, had all the home inspections done.Well, during the inspections, the closet was packed full, so obviously no one was able to inspect inside. Once the sellers moved completely out and our customer took possession, and look what they found!
Does your own closet look something like this?
Here at Twin Home Experts, we mitigate closet mold on a weekly basis from our Arizona and Los Angeles locations, so we definitely have the experience to guide you in the right direction. First, though, you’re probably asking yourself: what is causing the mold in my closet? There are a few factors to consider.
One of the most common causes is a leak coming from a bathroom that is adjacent or sharing a common wall.In this case, find a service provider that and locate the leak, or use leak detection equipment to pinpoint the source.
The second cause is reaching the dew point: when a dark closet is packed full and there is not sufficient air flow, then humidity begins, creating a sweating affect and a perfect environment for mold growth.A solution to this is to store things a few inches way from the wall and add a product called “EVER BAMBOO”: it’s a Deodorizer and a dehumidifier all in one.
Compared to regular charcoal, bamboo charcoal has 10 times more surface area and is 4 times stronger in its absorption rate. This makes bamboo charcoal the ideal deodorizer and dehumidifier for many places throughout the home. The picture above is one specifically for closets.
Mold remediation for closets requires some follow-up steps to prevent cross contamination into other parts of the rooms. One of the biggest concerns is removing clothes: this must be handled with care and be neutralized by way of fogging with an EPA approved antimicrobial agent and then HEPA vacuumed within a tight critical barrier.
