So, if you need to clear a shower drain of standing water, you want it done the right way the first time. We get you, so here’s how to do it right.
It’s time to take a nice hot shower, but all of sudden you feel the water rise ankle deep. STOP! Don’t need to call out a plumber, Twin Home Experts to the rescue.
Here’s what you will need to get started:
- Wet/ Dry vacuum
- Screw driver (Phillips head & standard)
- Hand towel
- Flashlight
- Gloves
Once you have these tools, you’re ready to start. Start by extracting the standing water in the shower using the dry/wet vacuum.
Once this has been removed, then the top drain cover needs to be removed using either a Phillips or standard screwdriver.
Take your flashlight and inspect inside, and more than likely you will find extreme buildup from soaps & hair inside the drain.
Now it’s just a matter of getting the buildup out. Make sure you’re wearing rubber gloves and begin pulling out the buildup by hand. You may need to use scissors or other tools to help you get all of it out. Dispose of the waste in a waterproof container. Run the water on low to make sure that the drain is now draining properly.
If there is still a clogging issue, call your local plumber. This could be signs of a bigger issue that needs more professional equipment.
